5 Steps To Getting Your Business Online

Like many of you, I have spent the last month quarantined at home. My time has been consumed with A LOT of good wine, planning new projects for my house (with a kitchen re-model at the top of my list), my closet has never been cleaner, and of course, my husband and I tend to stay up later than normal solving all the world’s problems. I have had more time than ever to think. Many of my thoughts have focused on how business is changing and how it will emerge in the aftermath of COVID-19. Working in digital marketing, it’s important to me to determine what these changes will be and how they will impact my clients.


If I have discovered anything over my time practicing social distancing, I can say it is more important than ever for a business to be online. The pandemic has forced a change in consumers’ daily behavior with regard to online shopping, and this change is not likely to go away once life returns to some kind of normal. Consumers have found the ease of online ordering, at-home delivery and the convenience of online shopping, AND THEY LIKE IT! Who knew how easy it would be to get on the phone with your doctor and avoid an office visit?! Although some industries, like restaurants, will likely see a boom when things go back to normal, other industries will need to do more and more business online to keep up.

After doing some research, I found a poll by AMC Global that says 38% of consumers report they will support local business more in the future.* And, 21% of consumers are less likely to purchase items from China!** Many think where e-commerce shopping wasn’t a habit before, it will now become the norm for many things – grocery, tele-health, liquor sales, clothing and household items.



Get Your Business Online - It’s easy!

The good news is if you want to get your business online…it’s easy to do!!! Below are a few steps to help you get started:

1. Branding

Do you have a brand?  What is your online voice…is it fun or professional?  Do you have photos of people and products to share? Ask yourself the following:

  • Why do you exist?
  • What differentiates you?
  • What problem(s) do you solve?
  • Why should people care?

Online branding is important and will help you generate brand loyalty, which in turn leads to repeat purchases!

2. Strategy 

Have you thought about your overall online strategy?  

  • What demographics make up your customer base?
  • Where does your customer base live?
  • Where do they hang out online?
  • What marketing channels will you use to reach them?
  • Who are your biggest competitors?
  • How will you measure success?

3. Develop your online presence:  

Online presence is how easy it is to find your brand or company online. You can develop and improve your online presence in a number of ways.  Think about these things:

  • Do you have social media pages? (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter)
  • Do you have a website?
  • What is the goal of your website/social media pages?
  • Will you offer in-store appointments?
  • Will you sell your products direct to consumer?
  • Do you want more leads for your practice?

4. Build Your Audience  

Once you have your online presence you can get to the fun part! It’s time to build your audience and start posting ads and content. A few pointers from our team:

  • Always look at industry trends
  • Content is King! Post useful and informative content on a regular basis to your audience.
  • Be You!

5. Ask for Help

It’s important to ask for help anytime in this process. Have a professional look at your marketing strategy and goals before you get started. They can help you develop a plan to move forward.
