Does My Business Need Social Media?

When I am meeting with new clients, I often get asked, “Do I need to be on social media?” The resounding answer I give is, “Yes!” You can’t afford not to be and here’s why:

Social media is everywhere. It’s inescapable.  Social platforms have impacted the way we get our news, communicate with family and share important information with others. It’s a powerful force that continues to evolve and won’t be going away anytime soon.

Social media allows businesses of all sizes to generate awareness and tell a story.  I am a big advocate of social media to help my clients become more personal.  It’s a great way to show off employees, highlight company culture as well as tell your audience about what’s going on in your industry firsthand.

Today’s consumers are savvy and often do research before making a purchase.  By showing up on social platforms you create authority for your business. If a customer is searching and can’t find you online…you don’t exist!

Social media provides a great place for you to create authority. By answering questions, giving advice and sharing relevant information, you can show your leadership in any given industry.

Using social media boosts your website’s SEO. Social media pages are often in the top pages of search results for a brand name.  Also, the concept of SEO is expanding when consumers are searching for a company. If they want to learn about you, they are just as likely to click on your Facebook and Twitter accounts as they are your website.

Social media ads are a great tool. They allow targeting and retargeting with the different types of ads you can run, such as increasing page likes, driving lead generation, increasing awareness, etc., and with the ROI, I consider them a no brainer.

Social media is a big key to customer service! Instant gratification is part of life today and it continues with customer service. With social media you can quickly interact with your customers to address issues and communicate personally to resolve issues quickly.

I consider social media marketing a level playing field.  Every business can create an account for free!  If you’re a businessperson with an inspiring story, a local company with ties to your community, or an underground brand offering something new and exciting that can resonate with consumers, then get on social media, even if you don’t have a massive ad budget!
